Training & Testing

Tooth & Claw offers stage combat instruction through the Society of American Fight Directors. Students can train in the nine skill sets offered by the SAFD:

Unarmed
Rapier & Dagger
Broadsword
Quarterstaff
Knife
Smallsword
Sword & Shield
Single Sword
Stage Firearms

Those who successfully complete 30 hours of training with a Certified Instructor are eligible for the SAFD Skills Proficiency Test, the internationally recognized standard in professional actor training.

All weapons and materials are provided, and Tooth & Claw offers this training in collaboration with a variety of host theatres, schools, and institutions.

In addition to skills testing, Tooth & Claw offers a full range of theatrical movement training including clowning, acrobatics, period movement, utility stunts, and safety consultation.
